Sussex County Bird Club Annual Dinner
“WHAT EVERY BIRDER SHOULD KNOW ABOUT BRIG”
by Donald Freiday
For the last five years, Don Freiday was Park Ranger-Visitor Services Manager at Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge, aka Brig, one of the largest and most visited refuges on the east coast, and a premier birding location.
Don led a bird walk every Friday morning for those five years. He also dealt with a massive derecho storm, a 3-week government shutdown, a visit from Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell, and, most notably, the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy, the eye of which passed directly over Forsythe headquarters. Sandy destroyed Wildlife Drive and, much worse, deposited over 390 tons of debris, including over 170 boats, on Forsythe’s fragile salt marsh habitat.
Don will give the inside scoop on this jewel of the coast, with plenty of his extraordinary photos, so please join us!
A Silent Auction fundraiser is conducted at the Bird Club’s annual dinner. If you have a new or gently used item you would like to donate, please email Connie Warren at firstname.lastname@example.org to let her know what you have no later than April 12th. These items may be nature related – or not! By letting Connie know, this will give us an idea of how much table space will be needed for the Silent Auction.
